No Gi class with Fred Leavy

July 28th we had a 2 hour no gi seminar with Fred Leavy. A few things that he taught us: Arm lock - Hold arm like a shotgun. Right hand on opponents right elbow, left hand on opponents right tricep, right foot on opponents left hip, roll over onto right side and place your left know on your opponents right elbow for arm lock submission. Single leg take down - hold leg like a rear naked choke. Rear naked choke from back - figure four one leg instead of getting both hooks in. Bring shoulders back and breath in when doing the choke. Guillotine choke - if someone is latched onto one leg, get hand around neck, make a fist, grab your own fist, lean chest on your opponents head.

Gi class

I went to Gi class last night. We went over grip breaks. We rolled with several different partners. I was taught the technical mount from a blue belt. It's a great mount that is hard to get out of. I rolled with a guy that's been doing Jiu-Jitsu for as long as I have and submitted him with a arm and head choke. Awesome day!

No Gi class

I went to No Gi class yesterday. We went over arm drag from butterfly position with your opponent on their knees, transitioning to the back, sinking in your hooks, and submitting with a rear naked choke.

Gi class and drilled this week

Sunday - Gi class - went over arm bar fundamentals. Monday - Drilled with a friend. Went over several ways to do the Kimura from different positions. Tuesday - Gi class - Went over standing Judo throws. Rolled for about 10 minutes. I accidentally rolled a new guy onto his wrist from the mounted position. He seemed okay when I left. Make sure you keep your hands off the mat newcomers!

Teachings of the day... standing headlock take down. Grab the attackers wrist posture up/look up, get your hips as close as you can to the attacker, monkey paw the attacker's furthest foot with your foot*, sit down, pulling the attacker to the ground. From here you essentially have a bicep splicer, kimura, or arm bar. It's been a while since I've posted anything. I wasn't injured or anything just busy. *If the attacker's furthest foot is the attacker's right foot then monkey paw the attacker's right foot with your right foot. This would mean the attacker has you in a headlock on his/her left side.

Teachings of the day... arm triangle choke from standing, mount, and side control. Trap the arm with your head, wrap your arm around your opponents head, grab you bicep (tricep if possible) put your hand on your head and squeeze. I rolled for about 10 minutes.
