Jiu-Jitsu University by Saulo Ribeiro ➞ Rating A+
This book not only tells you how to do something but also shows common mistakes and tells you what not to do. This is the only book I know of so far that does that. It also gives you an idea of what you should be doing at different belt levels. It really helps you gauge how good you should be at different stages of your jiu-jitsu training. The introduction is excellent. It makes fantastic suggestions on how you should train.
Some great advice from this book:
"Comparing yourself with your partners only hinders your experience."
"Ego is the biggest hindrance in reaching a high level in jiu-jitsu."
"Don't try to look good!" ➞ In other words: Don't worry about what you look like when you're rolling.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Theory and Technique by Renzo Gracie and Royler Gracie➞Rating A
This book has some really good self defense techniques in it.
